The marathon concludes with a powerful evening lineup. Op. 18 No. 6 offers lightness and invention before yielding to the colossal Op. 133 “Grosse Fuge”—a work of staggering complexity. Beethoven’s final quartet, Op. 135, closes the day with introspective beauty and his famous musical question: “Must it be? It must be.”
