On February 18 & 19, 2022 at 8PM at the Toledo Museum of Art’s Peristyle Theater, the Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) will present the world-famous brass ensemble, Canadian Brass for a program of classical arrangements and Canadian Brass originals. In-person and livestreaming tickets to this ProMedica Masterworks Series performance are available now to the general public and can be purchased at toledosymphony.com, by calling 419.246.8000, or visiting the box office at 1838 Parkwood Ave. The performances on Friday and Saturday evening are presented by Venture Visionary Partners.

“As a brass player, I am very excited to welcome my good friends and incredible artists of the Canadian Brass to our beloved Toledo Symphony for the first time in almost 20 years,” says Alain Trudel, Music Director of the TSO. “Their dedication to spreading the love of all music around the world, individual talent, and infectious stage presence has earned them the international reputation not only as the world’s most famous brass group but as truly great artists.”

Since forming in 1970, Canadian Brass has toured the world extensively, presenting their concert productions of brass standards, a wide-ranging library of original arrangements, lively dialogue, and theatrical effects to mass audiences. With a discography of over 130 albums, the group continues to reach Billboard Charts and has made numerous television appearances on shows like The Tonight Show, Today, and Entertainment Tonight.

Canadian Brass repertoire spans many genres and styles, including the works of Renaissance and Baroque masters, Classical works, marches, holiday favorites, ragtime, Dixieland, Latin, jazz, big band, Broadway, Christian music, as well as popular songs and standards. The group has created transcribed, arranged, and commissioned more than 600 works, including critically acclaimed compositions from Michael Kamen, Luther Henderson, Bramwell Tovey, Don Gillis, and more.

Aside from performing, Canadian Brass is dedicated to educating the next generation of musicians. While traveling around the world, the group often presents masterclasses to young musicians and students. Canadian Brass was Ensemble in Residence at the University of Toronto after having been Chamber Quintet-in-Residence for many years at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California, and has also created an innovative brass summer course at the Eastman School of Music.

While in Toledo, Canadian Brass will present a masterclass at Bowling Green State University on Thursday, February 17 and will work with Toledo Symphony School of Music, Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Toledo Ballet students on Saturday, February 19. The masterclasses will focus on many areas, primarily performance anxiety and how young musicians can overcome the challenges and fears associated with performing.

ABOUT TOLEDO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The Toledo Symphony Orchestra is a community-supported organization of professional musicians and teachers who deliver quality performance and music education for all.

Formed in 1943 as The Friends of Music and incorporated in 1951 as the Toledo Orchestra Association, Inc., the Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) has grown from a core group of twenty-two part-time musicians to a regional orchestra that employs sixty-nine professional musicians who consider the Toledo Symphony their primary employer, as well as numerous extra players annually as repertoire demands.

On January 1, 2019, the Toledo Symphony and Toledo Ballet officially merged to form the Toledo Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA), a new non-profit organization dedicated to providing exceptional live music and dance performances and education for the region. This partnership promises to create new and invigorating programs, provide cost and revenue synergies in operations, and integrate the arts through shared educational missions.

The Toledo Symphony reaches more than 260,000 individuals annually through performances and education programs. The series concerts (Masterworks, Pops, Chamber) are the critical underpinning of the orchestra’s artistic mission and regularly draw people from 135 postal zip codes. Education programs, student performances, and community concerts are held in schools, neighborhood churches, performing arts centers, and community facilities throughout the region; many are offered at no charge or provided at a reduced fee to help expand participation.
