Published Thursday, October 19, 2023

Toledo, OH – On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, The Toledo Symphony, a member of the Toledo Alliance for the Performing Arts, announced the highly anticipated Buckeye Broadband and The Blade Chamber Concert Series.

The Buckeye Broadband and The Blade Chamber Series will feature four Sunday afternoon performances at 4pm set to take place at the Toledo Museum of Art GlasSalon and Lucille’s Jazz Lounge at TolHouse.

Proudly sponsored by Buckeye Broadband and The Blade, this chamber series sets out to captivate and delight audiences with its musical themes. Each program in this series has been curated to showcase a wide range of musical masterpieces, featuring composers, time periods, and Toledo Symphony Musicians.

“We’re excited to experiment with these unique venues and the afternoon timing of the Chamber Series this year,” says Vanessa Gardner, Vice President for Marketing and Operations at TAPA. “We are thankful for our continued partnership with the Toledo Museum of Art and and we look forward to bringing more types of music to Lucille’s Jazz Lounge at TolHouse. We think the selections of music will fit well in these new venues.”

The Buckeye Broadband and The Blade Chamber Concert Series opens on Sunday, November 12 at Lucille’s Jazz Lounge with a program that continues to celebrate the Toledo Symphony’s 80th anniversary season. Opus 80s features pieces with opus 80 publication numbers. An opus number is a commonly used figure to catalog a composer’s works. This program features Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 6 in F Minor Op. 80, Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 1 in F Minor Op. 80, and Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 2 in F Major Op. 80.

On Sunday, January 14 at the TMA GlasSalon, Dvorak + Schubert highlights two timeless works of classical chamber music - Antonin Dvorak's String Quintet No. 3 in E-Flat Major, Op. 97 and Franz Schubert's Piano Trio No. 2 in E-Flat Major, Op. 100, D. 929.

On Sunday, March 3 at the TMA GlasSalon, British Fantasies captivatingly blends works by the talented British composers Benjamin Britten and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor with a new composition by the young Detroit composer Harriet Steinke.

The Buckeye Broadband and The Blade Chamber Series concludes on Sunday, May 19 at Lucille’s Jazz Lounge with Consonant Conversations, an exciting mix of classical and contemporary pieces for brass and strings by composers including Pascal Bentoiu, Charles Small, Jane Vignery, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did we change the time of these performances?

We heard from many guests that they would like to see TSO and TAPA have more day-time events. By presenting these performances at 4pm, we hope more people are able to attend who could not otherwise attend an evening performance.

Why did you change the venue of these performances?

We have wonderful partnerships with both the Toledo Museum of Art and our friends at TolHouse. Performances at the GlasSalon have always been special, with an open and airy feel and great acoustics.

Our presentations at Lucille's Jazz Lounge located inside TolHouse in the Vistula neighborhood are experiments! Both TSO and TolHouse is excited to present different types of music in this space. Lucille's is cozy and intimate and a perfect place to sip a beverage on a Sunday afternoon!

Why are there only 4 performances instead of 5?

Toledo Symphony musicians are preparing even more chamber music for you, not less. Stay tuned for more information about Candlelight performances taking place throughout the season.

How much are tickets and how do I purchase?

Individual tickets are $40. If you purchase all four events, you will receive a $5 discount for each performance.
